Bucket Fillers

This term we are looking at becoming bucket fillers.  I first saw the idea in a book by Carol McCloud but having delved more into the topic I found that Dr. Donald O. Clifton wrote a book in the 1960's titled "Dipper and Bucket".  You can find more information at this website - Bucket Fillers.
The following clipart depicts the bucket.  The original piece was created at A3 as a .png (but check your page set up before printing and change to A3 as it often defaults back to A4).  The .pdf poster prints on 4 A3 pages (again check the page set up before printing).  Click on the image to open link to the download page.

Below is the poster with a black background.

Children Posters

These children will be used as part of a Bucket Filling display I am setting up next term.  The .png files will size to A3.  I have also made them into a .pdf poster file (4 pages).  If you set the page set up to A3 the total 4 pages will size to A1 (594x841 cm).  Click on the images to open the download site.

Leave a comment if you would like these in different colours and I will try to help.

100th Day Posters

These are the posters I use to countdown the number of days until our 100th day celebration and then to see if we have 200 days in our school year.  They are laminated and then we can mark them off each day with a whiteboard marker.

Calendar Maths

We are counting down the school days until the 100th day when we will have a celebration day.  For a maths warm up we record the number on this chart and complete the activities.  The second poster is for larger numbers and I use this after the first 100 days.

100 Days of Learning

Yesterday was our 100th Day of learning at school for 2013.  We had some challenges to complete by ourselves and as a class.  We blew up over 100 balloons but when we came to count them there were only 93!  Some had gone pop!  Here we are in our 100 day smarter prince and princess crowns.
Here are some of the activities we completed.  Click on the image to open the download site.

Cow clipart

We have been learning about farming in New Zealand.  I created this cow to include in a classroom display.  It has been created as a .png at A3 size.  Click here or on the image for a link to the A3 download page.  Click here or on the poster image for the download.  The poster page set up defaults to A4 so I change the page set up to A3 in the print pop-up menu for a poster on four A3 sheets.
Find some great resources at these New Zealand sites.
Both are 'powered' by DairyNZ and have great resources for teachers and children.

Mystery Reader

This year I have invited parents and caregivers to be a mystery reader in our class.
Children have loved having a family member read to the class.
When a reader has been I add their photograph to the mystery reader display.

Here are the borders I use to frame the photos.  They size to A3.

Our latest writing focus is character descriptions.  Below are thumbnails of posters and other resources I use when teaching this writing form.  Click on each and they will open the download site - all posters were created as A3.
Children glue the above checklist into their books so they can refer to it as they are writing. (A4 Landscape)

Martian Fractions

Saturday saw me at the PMA (Primary Mathematics Association) Seminar Day where I listened to some great speakers including Vince Wright, Peter Hughes and Bobbie Hunter.
Bobby shared the way she introduces fractions using a linear model within the context of martian chocolate bars.  When children have a strong sense of fractions as imaged quantities martian fractions can then be used to introduce children to a set model.  This was something I wanted to use with my children in the following week so I created this martian clipart to introduce the story -
"We all know that Martians are blue (in movies anyway) and they only like to eat blue food.  Martian chocolate is always blue and comes in only one length (one whole).  The chocolate we eat is many colours and comes in different lengths.  We are going to compare martian chocolate bars with ours."
